Our growing baby!

So, Andrew had his 1 month check-up on Valentine’s Day, exactly 1 month from his birthday, and he measured in at a whopping 10 lbs 15 ounces (95%) and a length of 22 3/4" (90%).  His head circumference was a mere 37.5 cm (25%).  We’re hoping that doesn’t correspond to his brains vs muscle ratio down the road.  Clearly he is a good eater and growing like a weed.  But, we think the rapid weight gain is leading to major gas pains as poor, little Andrew sure seems to suffer when passing gas.  So, I, have eliminated a bunch of "gassy foods" from my diet in hopes of relieving the gas pains.  These foods include beans, bran, brocoli, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, tomatoes, shellfish, green peppers, and citrus fruits.  No big deal, you say.  But, there’s more – chocolate and caffeinated drinks.  I’m not one to drink a lot of soda, but I do enjoy a diet coke every now and then when we’re out to eat.  And, chocolate!!!  Don’s mom gave us chocolates for Valentine’s Day, and Macy’s had their Franco chocolates for sale, so I had to buy a box.  Not to mention the candy bars that have been sneaking their way onto the grocery store check-out belt and magically disappearing before the groceries are unloaded from the car.  I’ve been cutting myself some slack since I’m breastfeeding, but admittedly I’ve been going overboard in the chocolate department lately.  I’ve been craving it probably because I’m sleep-deprived, and my body is telling me I must have sugar to keep going through the day.  But, for the sake of helping my little (big) gassy, sweet baby, I will forego the chocolate, caffeine, and other foods for a couple of months until Andrew’s digestive system has had time to mature.  All I can say is, "He owes me!" at least until I see that first big smile that wasn’t provoked by gas.  Then it will all be worth it!
