Dishwasher House

We just got a new dishwasher.  We have a list of household improvements that we budget for every year, and on top of Tenille’s list this year was a dishwasher.  Admittedly, I was skeptical.  I had no idea why we needed a new dishwasher when our current one seems to wash dishes perfectly…   Our new dishwasher is the quietest thing I’ve never heard.  I’ll admit it.  I’m pretty amazed.  It’s quiet…
But that’s not the best part about getting a new dishwasher… the best part is that we got an enormous box, and we made Caleb a house.  We spent the better part of the afternoon decorating it, which somewhat disturbed me.  He was really, really into decorating it.  He made me cut out moon and star shapes so he can hang them up.  He drew little pictures for it.  He put other toys on top of the house to decorate the "roof."  I don’t mean to offend any interior decorators that may be reading this blog, but I just have different ambitions for my son.  I think the good news is that despite his intense interest, I’m afraid he didn’t necessarily have a gift for it…  But, maybe I’m critiquing too harshly… he’s only 3… and at the end of they day, there’s only so much you can do with a cardboard house…
Perhaps my discouragement at interior decoration will drive him to other endeavors… like hair dressing…  (no offense intended to hair dressers.) From what I hear about father’s ambitions for their children… this is typically how it goes…
Perhaps the best thing to do is just watch quietly and encourage unconditionally…. (and worry secretly…)
In the meanwhile, it’s fun to be a guest in my son’s well decorated cardboard home.
